Luguentz Dort

Born in 1999 to Haitian parents in Montreal North, Luguentz Dort overcame numerous obstacles to become an internationally renowned basketball player. He started playing basketball at a young age, quickly showing exceptional talent and determination. After a remarkable college career at Arizona State University, Dort joined the NBA in 2019, first through a two-part contract, before signing a five-year contract worth $87.5 million with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This contract will make him the highest paid Quebec athlete at that time.

Luguentz Dort has established himself as one of the most outstanding Canadian players of his generation, both for his impact on the field and for his commitment to his community. In 2025, he was named to the NBA's First Defensive Team and made Thunder history by being part of the first team in the organization to win an NBA championship. Indeed, he won the NBA championship with the Oklahoma City Thunder, devoting an exceptional career at the highest level of professional basketball. This historic victory was widely celebrated in Montreal. The City of Montreal paid him an official tribute at City Hall, and a major cup parade took place in Montréal-Nord, his home neighborhood and home port, underlining the collective pride aroused by his success and his role as a model for an entire generation.

In 2022, he and his family founded the Maison Dort Foundation, whose mission is to improve the lives of young people from disadvantaged communities in Montreal, Oklahoma City and central Arizona, in particular by promoting team sports.

Nicknamed “LutheBeast,” Dort is known for his tenacious defensive play, agility, and ability to score points at crucial moments. His inspiring journey, from his humble beginnings in Montreal North to his rise in the NBA, is a testament to his resilience and hard work.

In 2024, at the age of 25, Dort was selected to represent Canada at the Paris Summer Olympic Games, marking his first Olympic participation — an important step in his career and a defining moment for Canadian basketball.
